Illuminating Higher-Education Environments:
Advances in technology have transformed how humans interact with each other and our
environments. The coffee shop effect has influenced how we live, work, play, and how we learn.
Learning is no longer confined to a lecture hall or classroom. At the same time, stringent energy
codes are driving design decisions. Energy codes are impacting higher-education design and the
lighting technology illuminating them. Learn about the increasing complexity of lighting energy
codes, advances in lamp and control technology, design strategies to balance an energy efficient
lighting system with the best lighting quality, and the value of lighting in the WELL design guide.
The course will address occupant comfort in the discussion of WELL preconditions and optimizations.
The course will also discuss how energy codes support sustainable design initiatives and how they
will impact the architect and client’s vision.
This presentation will be led by:
Matthew Fracassini, MIES, LEED AP BD+C – Project Manager with The Lighting Practice
Ryan Conover, EDAC, Assoc. IALD – Project Manager with The Lighting Practice
This course offers 1 LU/HSW CEU credit.
Food for Thought events are free and open to the public. Please feel free to invite a colleague or connection!
