In this episode of Project Management Pioneers, Watchdog’s Director of Hospitality, Oliver Carley, highlights the unique qualities of general contractors in the hospitality industry.
In the hospitality industry, general contractors tend to travel on their client’s behalf during renovation projects. This means that a general contractor who may be based in Maryland or Washington D.C. could find themselves doing work in California or Colorado. Selection of the right firm can be dependent on the size of the hotel as well as the size of the general contractor.
During the renovation, project managers are sometimes needed on-site full time, while other times they are needed for project walk throughs and punch-list meetings. Regardless of the hours spent on-site, as a project manager it is vital to create a strong relationship with the hotel operations team in order to ensure each phase of the project is in accordance with hotel standards and on schedule.
