The Change Management Process in Real Estate Project Management

The change management process is a service Watchdog is experiencing more with their clients. The objective of change management is to show people the value of change and build excitement around it; link the workplace to business priorities; reduce anxiety; and help people prepare for new ways of working. Typically, starting a new project means some level of change in either space, functions, or within department structures.

“This is where some clients are seeing the need for change management consulting come into their project plan,” explained Caitlyn Helson, Project Manager.

Typically at the beginning of the design and architecture process, clients identify how their space will change and their goals for the space. Those goals determine what types of architectural elements, spaces, and seating arrangements are going to be included. It is likely different from their current situation, which causes employees to require guidance on how to function in the new space.

“Change management can provide that direction and guidance,” Helson pointed out. She suggests a one-day, open house event to unveil the design, share videos, and give employees a chance to talk to the project team and try a virtual reality experience.
