The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House celebrated the completion of the latest phase of the expansion project. Watchdog is proud to have worked on this project since the very beginning stages. We are thrilled to see it come to completion.
The eight-story tower expansion provides a home away from home for sick children and their families. Each floor has 16 bedrooms designed for long term stays. The expansion provides more access for families in need and comfort for those already there.
The bedroom suite design was created with long-term families in mind. Each room includes a private bathroom in the middle of the suite, which creates two zones. One zone has a bed and the other has a sofa bed so that the area can double as a living room.
The expansion will allow the house to serve over 100 families every night, which doubles the previous occupancy capabilities.
Project Management Pioneers – Ronald McDonald House Expansion
There are several common areas throughout the house. A newly constructed cooking and dining center features a fully equipped kitchen section dedicated to families who want to prepare their own meals. There are also a number of outdoor spaces, including gardens, play areas, grills, reflection paths and a food forest.
The existing 19th century mansion building was incorporated into the overall plan. The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House will celebrate its 45th anniversary this fall.
The next phase of the expansion project is set to be completed towards the end of the year. Watchdog will continue our project management through the next phase, which includes indoor play areas, a wellness center and a theater.
Watchdog continues to be dedicated to the success of this project. It is complex in nature, but the mission of the project makes the hard work meaningful and fulfilling. Our project team has been lead by Natalie Malawey-Ednie, with support from Loren Shaw, Rebecca Finlan, Michele DiVeterano and David Heckler.
We worked alongside an excellent project team including:
